This is a simple wallet/coin purse that is easy to make and is easily customizable!
- SUPPLIES: Scissors, pins, measuring tape or ruler, 7" zipper, 2 pieces of fabric for liner (8"x6.5"), 2 pieces of fabric for outside (8"x6.5"), 3 fabric strips torn from fabric (13"x1.25"), a zipper foot for your sewing machine (it makes it much easier if you do!).
- STEP 1: Pin the edge of the zipper to one 8" side of the liner (both right sides facing up).
- STEP 2: Do the same thing for the second piece of liner. TIP:
When sewing the zipper, stop sewing before you get to the zipper head,
keep the needle in the fabric, unzip past the needle, and continue
sewing. This moves the zipper out of the way so that you can sew
straight.
- STEP 3:
Close the zipper, and pin the 8" side of outside fabric (wrong side
facing up) to edge of zipper. Sew. Do this for the last piece of outside
fabric for the other side of zipper.
- STEP 4:
Iron pieces closest to the zipper to stay flat. Sew along side of the
zipper to ensure a straight clean line. Do this for both sides.
- STEP 5:
Take your 3 strips of ripped fabric and lay down, (make sure you have
something heavy holding the tip down as you go). Braid the 3 strands
together and leave about a half inch on each edge. This makes it easier
when you go to sew it onto your purse later. Pin together making a loop.
- STEP 6:
Unfold your purse so that both pieces of liner are together. Pin (add
the strap you braided and pined together an inch from the top [zipper].
Pin to the outer piece and continue pining) sew all the way around edges
leaving at least a 3" gap. Backstitch at start and finish to keep from
unraveling.
- Step 7:
Turn your coin purse right side out from the hole and sew the hole
shut. At this point, you can customize it by adding buttons, hot gluing
ribbon for trim, or embroidering your friend's initials on it. HAVE FUN!

ReplyDeletedo you have to sew the zipper on first?
Thank you! :) It does help sewing the zipper on first. Although, you don't have to use a zipper foot if you don't have one. It just makes it easier.
