DIY Mint Lip Balm

I don't know about you, but I cannot leave the house without my chapstick and I love Burts Bees but it can get so expensive especially if you use chapstick as much as I do! The actual ChapStick brand just isn't minty enough for me, so I decided to make my own.

A lot of other recipes for lip balm that I found consisted of ingredients like lanolin and shea butter- stuff I'm not too familiar with, so I made the easiest, most basic, foolproof recipe on planet earth! And here it is...

Ingredients:
natural beeswax
coconut oil
vitamin e oil
peppermint oil
empty lip balm tubes or pots
*this recipe made 30 small pots of lip balm*

Step 1: Melt 2 oz. beeswax in a pot on low heat.
*note: I bought an old pot at Goodwill for $7 so I wouldn't ruin our good ones*

Step 2: Measure out 3 oz. coconut oil 3/4 oz. vitamin e oil (or more if you don't want it to turn out super solid and hard to use) and combine with FULLY MELTED beeswax.

*side note: I ended up using a Weight Watchers food scale which worked quite well I must say, but you can get a scale just about anywhere. Here's a cheap one on amazon.

Step 3: Let it all melt and carefully stir to mix together. Add peppermint oil. For me, the more the merrier so I ended up adding about 30-or-so drops. It smells stronger than it feels so don't be deceived! Stir together to blend.

Step 4: This is the fun and very messy part which happens to be my favorite! :)
Put the whole mixture into something easy to pour like a measuring cup. Gently and slowly pour the mix into each tube or pot to almost the rim. be careful not to overfill it!

It happened to fill all...but one. Figures. They will slowly start to harden but to speed up the process, pop them in the fridge or freezer just for a couple minutes.

After being set, screw the tops back on and seal them tight. Decorate if desired. I used black and white polka dot washi tape along the bottoms of mine to give them some cute retro style! Enjoy! :)

*helpful note: I realized how hard it was to chip away at the beeswax block which is why I would recommend pellets. Before I put all my supplies away, I finished chipping away pieces from the rest of the block and stored them in a large Ziploc bag so they will be ready to go for my next batch!*

Also, for the pots I used a bead organizer like this one for a few bucks at my work (Joanns) but it looks like they don't have the smallest 30-count one online but those will work just as well!

Don't be afraid to experiment with oils either! Just because my recipe calls for peppermint oil doesn't mean you HAVE to use it. Amazon has a wide variety of oils like lavender, sweet orange, vanilla, grapefruit, cinnamon, and maybe some cedarwood for the guys. Have fun! :)
